Jaunt up the coast
After a week in the city it was time for a weekend away. As it happens one of my uni flatmates, Hannah, is now living up in Newcastle which is a short 3hr train trip up the cost.
Now the trains over here are something else. I know British rail try to stack people two high at time but the trains here actually have an upstairs. The thing is that the trains aren't that much taller, they just make use of that big space down close to the tracks between the wheels. Then to top off the clever design all the seats have the option to flip the back rest over so you can face which ever way you want. Great.
Well Newcastle (I know it is like being back in England. I left Sydney via Kings Cross and Paddington and then passed through Cardiff before getting to Newcastle) is a nice little beach town. It is down between the beaches that some one has had another great idea. For all those people out there that want to swim in the sea but don't like the waves or want to do lengths then they have come up with a solution. They have built a big concert whole with the top just below high tide. Then when the tide comes in it fills the pool up and then leaves you with a pool - plus free water. Genius
